Testing & FSAs
Concerns about FSAs: The Foundation Skills Assessment Tests take valuable time away from teaching and learning, and they take much-needed resources from classrooms and students. The test results bring no additional funding or support to schools, and the results are misused by the Fraser Institute to rank schools according to a very narrow measure. ...more

Education Funding
The Ministry of Education is responsible for cuts to public education in its 2009 budget, which has meant more shortfalls in funding to an already cash strapped pubic education system. The increase to public education in B.C. is just over 1% which is less than inflation and less than government-mandated salary increases. Conditions are projected to worsen in coming years. The Burnaby Teachers’ Association has urged the Board of Education to establish a priority-based budget during this time of decreases in funding and have turned to Burnaby teachers to help provide the areas of greatest need for funding. ...more
